Taboada Ink - A collection of artistic creations and projects from the mind of Carlos
Taboada.
This first page details the music of Carlos Taboada.
"Retro-Heaven" was the first
release from TaboadaTunes Music. The songs are a collection of contemperary christian tunes that had been swimming around
in my head for years. I got together with Clark Hamlet (member of San Antonio's local bands PASSING STRANGERS and
PATSY TORRES) and we gave life to the ideas. Purchase thru Paypal for only $9.95. Click Below.
"Retro Heaven"
is the third release by Carlos Taboada. His first 2 releases were on Freddie records, a Tejano lable out of Corpus Christi,
Texas. The first CD, "A Mover El Bote" spawned a medium size
hit with the title track. The second track to be released off the CD, "Cecilia" was a cover of a Simon and Garfunkal tune done in spanish and was a mild hit. "I had this idea
to add my funky style to Tejano music. We recorded and released the first CD and the response was a little slow.
Inside of cover - "A Mover El Bote"
Some people liked it. Others thought I was damaging
a family treasure. They never said they didn't like it, they just didn't like the fact that I was changing the original Polka
sound of Tejano music. The first CD did spawn a couple of hits, but the way DJs treated them, I felt more like "Wierd
Al" then I did a legitimate artist (not that Wierd Al isn't legit, he just creates "hokey" on purpose). I decided to
keep pluggin' along and maybe build up my small core of fans. Then, Selena died. Tejano music took a hard nose dive after
that, never to recover. I took that as a sign to pursue my other musical interest. I never really wanted "Hits", I just love creating
the art."
What's next?
The "Lounge Oddity" CD, of course.
Now comes
the"Lounge Oddity" CD. With songs by
Neil Sedaka, Paul McCartney, and David Bowie to name a few, Bossa Nova lounge fans will be pleased with the selections and
the style. This is the second release on the TaboadaTunes CD label. It's completely lounge and completely
odd. Not to say the music is odd, it's straight ahead "Lounge". Odd refers to the song selections. "These are songs you wouldn't normally hear
in a bossa nova lounge style. That's what appeals to my creative side right now. It may change later". To
